Ever since I passed by Communal Coffee months ago, I just couldn’t stop thinking about it and now that I have friends who moved to San Diego. I have been taking advantage of exploring the town whenever I’m down there. I know that Hollywood has captured most of the world’s attention through its thriving entertainment industry, making Los Angeles one of the hippest destinations in the world, but for me personally, LA cannot be compared with the chill, laid back charm of San Diego.
Here you can have the best of both worlds – the joy of relaxing at the beach and also the excitement of exploring what downtown has to offer can be daily possibilities without the headache of LA traffic. On my latest trip to San Diego, some friends and I visited Communal Coffee (a local café) to start our day with a healthy brunch and sip some coffee while catching up.
I couldn’t help but wander around this café to admire the tasteful decor – it’s that big! And by wander, I mean take photos of almost every corner, inside + outside. As you can see, the place is picturesque. Definitely a place you wouldn’t mind staying for a whole day, and a perfect place to have a light brunch with your girls, work on your laptop, have meetings, conduct a mini photo shoot to achieve that perfect #Coffeeholic Instagram post, or simply stop by to enjoy a nice cup of coffee and the pleasant atmosphere. Hop on their merchandise for quirky gift ideas for the holidays!

Whatever you choose to do at a coffee shop, it’s undeniable that the moment you walk through the doors, you feel that you’re in for a treat. Designed by the owner, Jen Byard, Communal Coffee began with her creative vision for the space. I remember telling my friend Angelica how absolutely amazing the café is and how I need to meet the owner pronto because I believe she’s the Pinterest Queen for achieving such a beautiful space and unique atmosphere for patrons and curators like me to express ourselves and enjoy a sense of community.

Overall, Communal Coffee went beyond my expectations in the most creative way. I was especially impressed with how they share their art and beauty in various forms – interior design, food, merchandise, advocacy, and the list goes on. With that being said, I’m wondering if they are planning to branch out soon, or whether they’ve decided to keep it local. This nation needs more beautiful and creative cafes like this.
Communal Coffee is open Monday through Sunday from 6:30am to 5pm. For more information, visit www.communalcoffee.com
